Group Reflection

Based on the evidence gathered from the interview with the principal, we realised that we should not entirely focus on parental needs (i.e. time and schedule), nor should the curriculum content be affected. Instead, we aim to provide a common ground between the school’s existing methods in educating parents and how parents can reinforce concepts with their children outside of school. Therefore, we created an alternative platform whereby parents can learn and apply strategies based on the centre’s curriculum. Despite how the interview shared the methods of reinforcement, it did not reflect whether parents actually used those methods or actually go for them. This made us realise that we should focus on what was already working out for parents and add on to it.
As a group, we learned that there are various factors that may influence an issue. In this case, we decided to narrow the needs of the centre to tackle one aspect of the problem. This allowed us to brainstorm and add on to our recommendations, choosing the best and ideal solution for that aspect. Through this, we also learnt the importance of process. For instance, when we decided on our recommendation, we went head on with our framework with no scenario or way to apply our idea. Hence, we were simply focused on the workshop instead of its lead-up. After a proper consultation, we have identified the flaws in our recommendation and started to add physical resources to our recommendation to provide an insight to our recommendation.
