Individual Reflection

Rationale of topic

At the beginning, our group had mixed input of experiences that could spur various ideas influencing our choice of topics. As such, I shared that during school events (i.e. workshops and tea-sessions), parents would ask more questions about the progress of their children instead of expressing concern about the school’s curriculum and academic content. Therefore, I phrased the inquiry question with my group based on the parents’ lack of understanding of the centre’s curriculum. However, after further discussions, I realised that this initial suggestion was not feasible because it was vague. Hence, this may influence misconceptions of the needs assessment. Therefore, we narrowed it down to “what methods are used to help parents effectively reinforce the curriculum”. Thus, we shifted our focus to the existing efforts in reinforcing the school’s curriculum with parents and the ways to improve them.

Personal Development

During this project, I learned that to cultivate effective cooperation with my group members, it is important to provide constructive feedback and criticism between each other. Therefore, this healthy environment and transparency between members influenced greater motivation for us to derive at improvements to our topic, needs and recommendations. For example, during meetups, we accommodate to each other’s working styles and schedules to facilitate effective discussions. Moreover, we also communicated well and delegated tasks based on our strengths and working styles. Through this, I believe that it made us more productive and efficient in meeting our deadlines that we set for ourselves. Lastly, this allowed us ample time to tweak and tackle certain issues that arose during the process, for example, the need to narrow down the needs analysis.
